"Christmas Magic on the Trails of Lake Ericson: A Rural Lake Community's Holiday Tradition"

In the heart of Wheeler County, just a stone's throw away from the quaint town of Ericson, there's a hidden gem that comes alive with the spirit of Christmas for one magical weekend each year. This enchanting place is Lake Ericson, a small, close-knit community just outside the town of Ericson. While Lake Ericson may be a well-kept secret for most of the year, it transforms into a winter wonderland of lights, laughter, and holiday cheer during this special annual event.

Lake Ericson Volunteers carefully adorn the trees and trails with twinkling Christmas lights and festive displays, turning it into a beacon of holiday joy. The shimmering lights create a breathtaking contrast against the backdrop of Lake Ericson, a pristine natural wonder that perfectly complements the festive ambiance.

This will be the fifth annual Trail of Lights. Each year the festive trip has grown in size and display. Once again, this year volunteers will transform the 30 acres of back trails around Lake Ericson into an even more mesmerizing Christmas wonderland. The event will take place December 5th and 6th, 2025. The goal was to create an unforgettable experience for everyone who stepped into this enchanting world of holiday magic.

One of the most remarkable aspects of this annual event is that it relies solely on generators to power hundreds of thousands of lights and decorations. It's a testament to the community's commitment to sustainability and self-sufficiency. Generators hum discreetly in the background, ensuring that the lights twinkle brightly, creating a surreal atmosphere that transports visitors to a winter wonderland.

But what truly sets Lake Ericson's Christmas celebration apart are the more than 40 scenes that await explorers along the back trails. Each scene is a masterpiece, lovingly crafted by dedicated volunteers who spare no effort to bring their creative visions to life. From Santa's Workshop to a dazzling nativity scene, from an enchanting forest of sparkling trees to a tribute to America’s Veterans, these scenes captivate the imagination and kindle the spirit of Christmas.

Visitors board hayracks to journey through the illuminated scenes. As the lights and decorations pass by, and the joyous laughter and sometimes spontaneous caroling of fellow travelers fill the air, it's easy to lose track of time. The ride lasts approximately 30 minutes, but it feels like a timeless adventure.

The combination of the serene natural beauty of Lake Ericson, the dedication of the community to sustaining this festive tradition, and the intricate scenes of Christmas magic make this event a must-visit for anyone seeking the heartwarming spirit of the holidays.
